Tracking a workforce in the Oil Sands of Canada

Work site at the Canadian Oil Sands

Keeping track of employees and contractors can be challenging, especially at remote sites in the Canadian Oil Sands. One of our customers, a major Canadian oil company, must every day transport thousands of skilled workers and contractors to remote locations by bus. The buses must be kept secure, and every passenger must be carefully accounted for – not only to control access to the site, but also to control costs. The transportation is not cheap; distances covered are significant, and our customer must have a way to accurately invoice contractors for the costs incurred.

Enterprise Air’s Mobile Badge Management solution provides a way for our customer to solve these problems. With our handheld card readers and integrated data management software, ID cards can be quickly scanned as workers and contractors board the bus; only valid cardholders are allowed on board, and transportation times are precisely tracked for each cardholder. Our Mobile Badge Management solution offers the following features:

ID card verification using mobile handheld card reader
  • Ruggedized handheld card readers, easily deployed to any site, that work even in the harshest physical conditions.

  • Every scan of an ID card is tracked and time-stamped.

  • The system does not require new ID cards; it can read existing smartcards, electronic stripes, and/or printed bar-codes.

  • Data is automatically synchronized to a central repository, and can be merged with any existing Physical Access Control System (PACS).

  • Data can be integrated with other back-office systems, using Enterprise Air’s data interface and architecture, based on secure Web standards.

Our customer can use the captured card scan data to generate the proper invoices. And, they have the option of integrating Mobile Badge Management with their time and attendance software, using Enterprise Air’s standardized data interfaces. This application of Enterprise Air at the Oil Sands, currently in trials, provides a great example of how integrated software systems, combined with handheld computing solutions, can be used to solve challenging problems in physical security and workforce management.

Is Mobile Badge Management right for you?

A handheld badge verification solution is well suited to any of the following scenarios:

Widely dispersed work facilities, with minimal infrastructure
Mix of ‘mobile’ work zones with existing buildings and secure facilities
  Temporary sites, rented facilities
Any scenario that requires accurate accounting of worker’s location and activity

Enterprise Air’s solution is designed to scale to thousands of cardholders and can be integrated with any popular Physical Access Control System (PACS).
